Investment Counselor / Portfolio Manager

Compensation: $150,000-$200,000 Base Salary + Bonus Potential

Position Summary

A highly respected independent wealth management firm is seeking an experienced Investment Counselor / Portfolio Manager to provide comprehensive investment management and wealth planning services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and nonprofit organizations. This role is responsible for developing customized investment strategies, managing client portfolios, building trusted client relationships, and delivering sophisticated financial guidance tailored to each client's unique objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess strong investment management experience, exceptional relationship management skills, and a fiduciary mindset focused on helping clients preserve and grow wealth while achieving long-term financial goals.

Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.
  • Develop and maintain long-term client relationships through proactive communication and ongoing consultations.
  • Understand client goals, risk tolerance, liquidity needs, and long-term financial objectives.
  • Deliver personalized investment and wealth management strategies.

Investment Management

  • Develop and implement customized portfolio strategies and asset allocation recommendations.
  • Manage client investment portfolios utilizing equity and fixed-income investment strategies.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and recommend adjustments based on client objectives and market conditions.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities and emerging market trends.

Financial Planning & Advisory Services

  • Assist clients with comprehensive wealth planning initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal and external professionals to support tax, estate, retirement, and financial planning objectives.
  • Support special projects related to client investment and financial planning needs.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of holistic wealth management solutions.

Business Development & Community Engagement

  • Participate in networking, community outreach, and relationship-building activities.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen existing client relationships and generate new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver an exceptional client experience.
  • Contribute to the firm's long-term growth and development initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • 7-10 years of experience in investment management, wealth management, financial planning, or advisory services.
  • Proven success managing relationships with affluent and high-net-worth clients.
  • Strong investment knowledge across equities, fixed income, asset allocation, and portfolio construction.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple client relationships and priorities simultaneously.
  • Advanced technology skills and proficiency with CRM and portfolio management systems.

Preferred

  • CFA, CFP®, MBA, or similar advanced credential.
  • Experience working with ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
  • Experience in independent wealth management or registered investment advisory environments.
  • Salesforce, Orion Advisor Services, or similar technology experience.

Compensation & Benefits
